Gumbo with Chutney

15 - 20 April 2018

The meeting of diverse cultures most often culminates in the mingling of exotic essences to create new and interesting flavors in both the culinary and the world of music. With the theme ‘Gumbo with Chutney’ we’ll get to taste exactly that rich blend of Calypso’s African beats with the West Indian ‘pitch-bends’ along a steady backdrop of New Orleans’ brassy timbres lending jazzy flavored harmonies. Original music is penned along with standards arranged by prolific writers to initiate this fusion.

Featuring:

Harini Raghavan – voc/violin (IN), Lydia Renold – voc (CH), Tom Walsh – lead trumpet (GB), Anders Bostrom – flutes (USA/SE), A.T.N. Stadwijk – keyboards (USA/SR) Ramon Stagnaro – guitar (USA/PE) Oscar Stagnaro – bass (USA/PE) Rodney Holmes – drums (US)

16. - 22 April 2018

Transatlantic Rhapsody is a compilation of new compositions written by Fritz K Renold, the musical director of the Jazzaar Festival that portrays the union and possibility of reunion between cultures on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. This promises an interesting dialog between the world of Jazz, European folk, and popular music to show how unity is found in diversity profoundly. The Swiss Youth Jazz Orchestra (SYJO) directed by Renold featuring renowned musicians will present the premier at the Jazzaar Festival.
