Bassist – The Jazzaar Festival Big Band

Luzi Niederhauser was born in Biel in 2003. At the age of 8, he started playing classical double bass. 3 years later he picked up the electric bass.

Since then, he has been given several opportunities to perform as a soloist with professional orchestras, including 2017 and 2018 with the Biel-Solothurn Symphony Orchestra and 2019 with the Orchestre Symphonique de Neuchâtel. He has also been called upon several times for duo recitals at the renowned Biel concert series.

At the Swiss Youth Music Competition, he has won the “1st prize with distinction ” several times as well as a special prize from the Fondation Suisa. He also won the 1st prize in the Concours du Jura in 2019.

As an electric bassist, he has performed in various bands in many different styles. Among others at the Artbeat Festival in Biel, the Biel Music Days at the Coupole, the Langnau Jazz Festival, the Jazzaar Festival, and on summer 22 at Lakelive.

After many years of encouragement from Witold Moniewski on double bass and Toni Schiavano on electric bass, he began studying jazz at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts in the fall of ’21 after graduating from the Gymnasium Biel-Seeland.
