Press Release

Jazzaar Festival is breaking new ground in more ways than one with this 27th edition come April 2019. We’re moving the main event to the newest trendy event hall in Aarau – the Aeschbachhalle!

That said, the many activities of the festival will take place in various other hot spots in Aarau throughout the week of April 8 – 13, 2019. There’ll be a concert presented in the the Jazz Club Aarau on the 11th April, daily workshops in the Alte Reithalle and our legendary jam session takes place at the Restaurant Einstein on the 10th. Naturally the daily rehearsals where the magic is birthed will be ongoing in both the Reithalle and in the Alte Kantonsschule Aarau throughout the week. This time we’re opening the doors on the 9th & 10th for the public to come and witness the fascinating work in progress!

The Ron Carter & The Jazzaar Big Band will be the Jazzaar premier at the Aeschbachhalle on April 12 at 20:00h! The program under the direction of Christian Jacob would be a hommage to the late Bob Freedman, the beloved arranger for Ron Carter as well as the Jazzaar Festival for many decades. The young talents in the band are accompanied by distinguished role models such as Ryan Quigley on trumpet, Antonio Hart on alto saxophone, Jason Jackson on trombone, Donald Vega on piano, Carl Allen on drums and by the legend himself, Ron Carter on bass.

The Jazzaar Global Ensemble directed by Fritz K Renold will present ‚Abraham’ in the Aeschbachhalle on Saturday, April 13 at 20:00h. Abraham is a concert experience of a special kind. Multi Grammy Award winners Gil Goldstein and Kabir Sehgal as well as the composers and producers Fritz K Renold and Mehmet Ali Sanlikol, who have been pre-nominated several times, together with one of the world’s best-known drummers, Billy Cobham, offer ear candies from a variety of genres. From world music to funky jazz and crossover to gospel, the music will be interpreted by emerging and seasoned stars of the jazz and world music scene. Abraham is also a musical experience that binds people of the three faiths together. The Blue Note recording artist Tommy Smith, the Duduk super talent Norayr Gapoyan from Armenia, the lyrical Syrian trumpeter Milad Khawam as well as the future leaders of the Jazzaar Festival, Lydia and Sharon Renold will offer the audience an eclectically varied program.

The Jazzaar Global Ensemble, will take the Abraham production on the road to the Conza in Lugano on Sunday, April 14, the HEMU in Lausanne on Monday, April 15 and to the X-tra in Zurich on Tuesday, April 16.
