Tony Martínez with his young band “The Cuban Power” is one of the most promising Latin Jazz and Salsa artists. His live concerts are legendary as what “Irakere” was for the ’80s.
In recent years, Tony Martinez & The Cuban Power have participated in many of the most important festivals in Europe (see insert). Thanks to all these European tours and other musical achievements, Tony Martínez has proven that he and his “Cuban Power” are among the world’s best Latin bands ever.
With his extraordinary talent as a multi-instrumentalist (alto sax, tenor sax, piano, flute), singer, as well as composer, arranger, and songwriter of his entire musical repertoire, Tony Martínez has made a name for himself in Europe as well as in the USA in a short time and has become one of the new greats of the Latin Jazz scene. Tony Martínez was signed by one of the most famous labels in the Latin Jazz-Worldmusic sector Blue Jackel Entertainment in New York.
His first album in 1997, “La Habana Vive”, was already highly praised by the international press. The famous musician Quincy Jones, for example, has declared Tony Martínez the birth of a new legend.
His second CD, “Maferefun” (Blessing), released in 1999, has received numerous excellent reviews and has won several awards. Thus, “Maferefun” was nominated for a “Grammy”. The Association worldwide of Independent Music Labels “THE AFIM” crowned his album “Maferefun” and “Indie Award Winner 2000 in Latin” as the best Latin album of the year. The Jazz Journalists Association also nominated the album as Best Latin Jazz Album of the Year in 2000 (www.jazzhouse.org).
