Alto Saxophone – Swiss Youth Funk Ensemble
I am 21 years old and I study Jazz Saxophone at the Zurich University of the Arts. I am in my first year of bachelors studying saxophone with Christoph Grab. I used to play lots of classical music, but through the Basel Tattoo Charity Foundation, the Jugendförderung and the Kadettenmusik Horgen I was able to take lessons with Mark Hauser for a few years and got a taste for jazz music and improvisation. In 2015 I won 1st place in the category Saxophone IV at the Zurich Music Competition and 2nd place overall. Currently I play in two bands, the jazz quartet “Come Flamingo” and the funk/soul band “Noble Noise”. I have also had the opportunity to participate in various music projects, such as the JJO Youth Jazz Orchestra, DKSJ all stars, Grassroots Ensemble and SOFIA (Support of Female Improvising Artists). This year is my 5th participation at Jazzaar. Through this project I have already been able to gain a lot of valuable experience, make new contacts and find a lot of inspiration and motivation. It is a unique project that enables us young students to work with great musicians and benefit from their knowledge.
