Bérénice Awa Keller
Percussionist – The Jazzaar Festival Latin Band
Bérénice Awa Keller (1998) is a Swiss percussionist of senegalese heritage. Growing up, she was part of an afro contemporary dance group for over 13 years. West African rhythms and melodies have basically accompanied her throughout her childhood and have paved the way for her musical experience – as a dancer, as a listener, as a lover of music, and eventually as a musician. As a child, she sang in choirs, played the keyboard for about one year, and drums for about two years. After High school, she decided to pursue music in a more serious and focused way and started playing percussion about four and a half years ago. She did two years of Precollege at the Jazzcampus in Basel where she also took up playing the electric Bass. She is currently in her second Bachelor’s year in Jazz-percussion at the Jazzcampus. Thus far, she had the chance to be taught by masters such as Larry Grenadier, Orlando Poleo, Marvin Díz, Jorge Rossy, Malcolm Braff, Roberto Koch, Alberto García Navarro, Freddy Benitez, and Alejandro Panetta.
