Evaluation Criteria - Jazzaar

Vocals

1. Sing the head of one of the Jazz/R&B pieces listed above. It is important that you are able to sing the piece as close as possible to the feel of the play-along version.

2. You will receive a second piece of music 15 minutes before your audition for sight reading. So please be at the venue on time for preparation.

3. Sing one piece of your own choice in any style with a metronome. No other accompaniment is permitted. Metronome is provided.

You will be evaluated on:
– Accuracy of notes and rhythm
– Entrance at the correct cues
– Musicality

Saxophones & Trumpets

1. Play the head of one of the Jazz/R&B pieces listed above. It is important that you are able to play the piece as close as possible to the feel of the play-along version. You’re welcome to demonstrate any improvisation skills if you would like to receive solo features (rare) during the performance.

All drummers and percussionists will audition on the drums.

You will be evaluated on:
– Sense of time and versatility in styles and grooves
– Reading drum/percussion parts
– Musicality
