Evaluation Criteria for Auditions 2015

Candidates should prepare one compulsory piece written for their instrument under their chosen orchestra at the password protected link below.

Vocals

1. Sing the head of the compulsory piece. A play-along accompaniment is provided for your vocal range. You’re welcome to demonstrate your improvisation skills if you would like to receive solo features (rare) during the performance.

2. Sing a transcribed solo of a piece of music of your own choice in any style with a metronome, play-along CD, or one instrumental accompaniment. A Metronome, CD/MP3 player, a piano and amplifiers are provided.

3. You will receive a second piece of music 15 minutes before your audition for sight reading. So please be at the venue on time for preparation.

You will be evaluated on:
– Accuracy of notes and rhythm
– Entrance at the correct cues
– Musicality
 
Brass, & Wind Instruments

1. Play the head of the compulsory piece. A play-along accompaniment is provided. You’re welcome to demonstrate your improvisation skills if you would like to receive solo features (rare) during the performance.

2. Play a transcribed solo of a piece of music of your own choice in any style with a metronome, play-along CD, or one instrumental accompaniment. A Metronome, CD/MP3 player, a piano and amplifiers are provided.

3. You will receive a second piece of music 15 minutes before your audition for sight reading. So please be at the venue on time for preparation.

You will be evaluated on:
– Accuracy of notes and rhythm

Guitar, Piano/Keyboards, Accordion, E-Bass & Double Bass

  • Amplifiers are provided

2. Play a transcribed solo of a piece of music of your own choice in any style with a metronome, play-along CD, or one instrumental accompaniment. A Metronome, CD/MP3 player, a piano and amplifiers are provided.

3. You will receive a second piece of music 15 minutes before your audition for sight reading. So please be at the venue on time for preparation.

You will be evaluated on:
– Accuracy of notes and rhythm
– Entrance at the correct cues
– Musicality
 
Drummers/Percussionists

  • A drum set is provided

All drummers and percussionists will audition on the drums.

1. Play the head of the compulsory piece. A play-along accompaniment is provided. It is important that you are able to play as close as possible to the feel of the play-along version.

2. Play a transcribed solo of a piece of music of your own choice in any style with a metronome, play-along CD, or one instrumental accompaniment. A Metronome, CD/MP3 player, a piano and amplifiers are provided.

3. You will receive a second piece of music 15 minutes before your audition for sight reading. So please be at the venue on time for preparation.

You will be evaluated on:
– Sense of time and versatility in styles and grooves
– Reading drum/percussion parts
– Musicality
