New CD Release! 24th August 2014
Future Steps: Live at Jazzaar Festival 2014 (Aarau, Switzerland)

Also available at http://shanti-music.com/shop

The ‘Future Steps’ is a ‘Bandstand Learning with Role Models’ production premiered at Jazzaar Festival 2014 in Aarau, Switzerland. It presents the wonders of young talents (ages 16 – 26) working closely as apprentices with top professionals, some of whom were actual members of the original band ‘Steps Ahead’ (Steps).

This CD features The Swiss Youth Jazz Orchestra (SYJO) directed by Fritz K Renold playing eight original tunes written by the director in the style of ‘Steps Ahead’ as well as one (‘Beirut’) written by Steps’ founder Mike Mainieri, all in a big band setting featuring soloists among the professionals and youth players. The orchestra rehearsed for a week. The premier performance was recorded live on April 12, 2014. Look out for additional tracks on a DVD release of the same name!

The tunes were arranged and orchestrated for the SYJO by Gil Goldstein, Christian Jacob, Jamshied Sharifi, Bob Freedman, Corey Allen and Fritz K Renold.

Each year Jazzaar Festival presents 2 workshops daily adding up to some really valuable crash courses in countless musical themes conducted by stars and professionals in the music industry.

These daily gems are offered free of charge for members of the Jazzzaar Association, Friends of Jazzaar and all participants at the productions. In the past years we had begun to film and record these events for our archives and to preserve the lessons to those that had missed attending.
