Das Swiss Youth Pops Orchestra wird dieses Jahr das Art Blakey Repertoire mit einer dafür bisher unbekannten Besetzung mit Streichern zum Besten geben. Mit seinen fantastischen neuen Arrangements, hat Bob Freedman, Grammy award Gewinner und Arrangeur, diese Idee möglich gemacht.

Das Ensemble ist eine Zusammensetzung von einem Jazz Septet und einem Kammer Orchester. Das Septet besteht grösstenteils aus mehreren Generationen von Mitgliedern der Art Blakey Jazz Messengers, während weitere Profis aus dem Klassichen und Jazz Bereich die 1. Stimmen im Orchester besetzen.

Jugendliche Talente ergänzen das Orchester in jeder Section, um aus erster Hand von den Meistern ihres Faches zu lernen.
Gemeinsam werden sie in die Welt von Art Blakey eintauchen und dabei die Kunst der Artikulation in groovigen Soli perfektionieren, wie auch dazu inspiriert werden, beeindruckende Solo-Improvisationen an den Tag zu legen.

Eine weitere Indian Night bei jazzaar verspricht die reichen musikalischen Traditionen Indiens tiefer zu erkunden, wie auch die Erfahrung des kulturellen Austauschs für das Swiss Youth World-Music Ensemble wieder einmal zu bereichern.

Es wird eine Woche intensiver Arbeit mit Spass verbunden sein: Veteranen wie Jugendliche vertiefen sich zusammen mit neuen Kompositionen und Arrangements, um ein gemeinsames Konzert zu präsentieren, das hoffentlich für beide Seiten vielseitig und lernreich sein wird. Zu Musik/ Texten haben beigetragen: Fritz Renold, Helen Savari, Christian Jacob, Giridhar Udupa, Jamshied Sharifi und Dr. Mysore Manjunath.

Die Proben werden alle möglichen Gruppierungen und Einrichtungen mit der gegebenen Besetzung ausnutzen, um Solo-Improvisation, Duelle, wie auch das Ausdrücken durch geschrieben Soli zu erlauben. Es wird eine Woche der Abenteuer in der komplexen Welt der Polyrhythmen und Jazzharmonien gekuppelt mit der Indischen Modalmusik sein.

Candidates may login with details received per e-mail and download any one of these MP3 play-along recordings and print out the appropriate part for your instrument or voice.

Please note below details to the Audition criteria and evaluation.

Woodwinds, Brass & Strings

1. Play the head of one of the jazz pieces listed above. It is important that you are able to play the piece as close as possible to the feel of the play-along version. You may improvise if you would like to receive solos (rare) during the performance.

2. You will receive a second piece of music 15 minutes before your audition for sight reading.

3. (Optional) Play one piece of your own choice in any style. Bring a play-along CD or live accompaniment (i.e. pianist).

You will be evaluated on:
- Accuracy of notes and rhythm
- Entrance at the correct cues
- Musicality

Vocals

1. Sing the head of one of the jazz pieces listed above. It is important that you are able to sing the piece as close as possible to the feel of the play-along version.

2. You will receive a second piece of music 15 minutes before your audition for sight reading.

3. (Optional) Sing one piece of your own choice in any style. Bring a play-along CD or live accompaniment (i.e. pianist).

You will be evaluated on:
- Accuracy of notes and rhythm
- Entrance at the correct cues
- Musicality

Piano, Guitar & e-Bass

Pianists and keyboardists will audition on the grand piano.
Guitarists will play with an Amplifier that is provided but without use of effects.
Amplifiers are provided for e-bassists

You must be able to count into the music. You may improvise if you would like to receive solos (rare) during the performance. Show your ability in accompaniment.

2. You will receive a second piece of music 15 minutes before your audition for sight reading.

3. (Optional) Play one piece of your own choice in any style. Show your ability in accompaniment.

You will be evaluated on:
- Accuracy of notes and rhythm
- Entrance at the correct cues
- Musicality

Drummers/Percussionists

All drummers and percussionists will audition on the drums.

1. Play the head of one of the jazz pieces listed above. It is important that you are able to play as close as possible to the feel of the play-along version.

2. You will receive a second piece of music 15 minutes before your audition for sight reading.

3. (Optional) Play one piece of your own choice in any style. Show your ability in accompaniment.

You will be evaluated on:
- Sense of time and versatility in styles and grooves
- Reading drum/percussion parts
- Musicality
