Evaluation Criteria for Auditions 2017

Candidates should prepare one compulsory piece under their chosen orchestra at the password protected link below.

Vocals

1. Sing the head of the compulsory piece accompanied by the given play-along track.

2. Sing a song of your own choice in any style with a play-along CD, or one instrumental accompaniment (piano, guitar, bass, etc). You’re welcome to demonstrate your improvisation skills to be considered for available solo features during the performance. A metronome, CD/MP3 player, a piano and amplifiers are provided for you at the audition.

3. You will receive a second piece of music 15 minutes before your audition for sight reading. So please be at the venue on time for your preparation.

You will be evaluated on:
– Accuracy of notes and rhythm
– Entrance at the correct cues
– Musicality
 
Brass & Wind Instruments

1. Play the head of the compulsory piece accompanied by the given play-along track.

2. Play another piece of your own choice in any style with a play-along CD, or one instrumental accompaniment (piano, guitar, bass, etc). You’re welcome to demonstrate your improvisation skills to be considered for available solo features during the performance. A CD/MP3 player, a piano and amplifiers are provided for you at the audition.

3. You will receive a second piece of music 15 minutes before your audition for sight reading. So please be at the venue on time for your preparation.

You will be evaluated on:
– Accuracy of notes and rhythm
– Entrance at the correct cues
– Musicality
 
Guitar, Piano/Keyboards, E-Bass & Double Bass

  • Amplifiers are provided

1. Play the head of the compulsory piece accompanied by the given play-along track.

2. Play another piece of your own choice in any style with a play-along CD. Do show your ability in accompanying a soloist. You’re welcome to demonstrate your improvisation skills if you would like to be considered for solo features during the performance. A CD/MP3 player, a piano and amplifiers are provided for you at the audition.

3. You will receive a second piece of music 15 minutes before your audition for sight reading. So please be at the venue on time for your preparation.

You will be evaluated on:
– Accuracy of notes and rhythm
– Entrance at the correct cues
– Musicality
 
Drummers/Percussionists

  • A drum set is provided

All drummers and percussionists will audition on the drums.

1. Play the head of the compulsory piece accompanied by the given play-along track and/or with a metronome. Use either of the given treble or bass parts as a lead sheet.

2. Play another piece of your own choice in any style with a play-along CD, or one instrumental accompaniment. A CD/MP3 player, a piano and amplifiers are provided.

3. You will receive a second piece of music 15 minutes before your audition for sight reading. So please be at the venue on time for your preparation.

You will be evaluated on:
– Sense of time and versatility in styles and grooves
– Reading drum/percussion parts
– Musicality
